EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

PRVO Head Start/Early Head Start is a comprehensive early childhood education program offered at no cost that provides high-quality services to low-income children and families in Forrest County, Mississippi. Our program aims to prepare children for success in kindergarten and beyond by offering enriching learning experiences and promoting their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.

Head Start serves children ages 3-5, while Early Head Start serves pregnant women, infants, and toddlers up to age 3. PRVO has seven Head Start and Early Head Start locations in Forrest County that offer center-based services. 

To be eligible, families must meet the following requirements:

  • Reside in Forrest County
  • Have income at or below the federal poverty guidelines

Head Start and Early Head Start provide a wide range of services, including education, health, nutrition, family engagement, and disability services. Children receive nutritious meals, developmental screenings, and work towards achieving school readiness goals aligned with state standards.

Parents are empowered as their child's first teacher through involvement opportunities like parent committees, workshops on child development, and volunteering in classrooms. Family support services like job training, housing assistance, and mental health resources are also available.

PRVO Head Start/Early Head Start is an inclusionary placement for children with disabilities and special needs.  By working together, teachers, local education agencies, community agencies, and parents facilitate and maximize the child’s full participation in classroom experiences and interactions.

We believe addressing the entire family and supporting them in taking an active role in every phase of their child’s development will better serve the child’s needs and the family as well. We offer parents opportunities and support for growth in order that they may identify their own strengths, needs, interests and become self sufficient and empowered to excel at all goals.
